“Opportunities
with Alpacas” is a hands-on alpaca workshop presented by Drs. Ed and Ruthanne
McCaslin of Promised Land Farm. Learn the basics of the alpaca business from
two veterinarians who raise and love alpacas.
This practical one-day small group workshop will start at
8:00a.m. and run until 6:00p.m.
This fun and helpful day of alpaca learning costs $75.00 per person or $100.00 for two people from the same farm. Price includes
lunch, snacks and handout materials.
Registration will be limited so that we can give each of you as much individual
attention as you need, especially during the hands-on portions of the day.

Each
seminar will last from 10a.m. to 3p.m. and will be limited to 4 participants so
that everyone can get hands-on experience and individual instruction. The cost
is $275 per person or $500 for two people from the same farm and includes a shearing
manual, apron, gloves, snacks and lunch. All necessary equipment will be provided
and there will be shears, etc. available for purchase if you wish. If you already
have your own equipment, you may bring it and Mary Jane will show you how to
adjust it for best results.
Two alpacas will be shorn at each seminar, one by Mary Jane as a demo and the
other by the 4 participants, each doing approximately 1/4 of the job. Shearing
and skirting of show fleeces will be included. Most of the seminars will be done
using huacayas, but a suri seminar or two will be scheduled if there is enough
interest. There will be a reduced price of $450 for anyone who wants to attend
both a huacaya and a suri seminar. Each attendee will receive a voucher for $275
that can be applied toward the purchase of any animal or breeding fee from Promised
Land Farm.

Of course we can’t make you parasitologists in one day, but we can teach you to screen your herd for problems and how to work together with your vet when you find a problem. We will also teach you prevention and control techniques that will save you time and money and give you a healthier herd.
Learn to do your own fecal screening tests, both a Modified Stoll’s Technique and a direct smear, and when to use each one. Bring your own microscope and centrifuge, if you have them, or use ours and learn what to look for when selecting your equipment. Cost includes a complete set of notes, a starter kit, a parasitology text book, lunch, snacks and follow-up support after the class is over.
Cost: $350 per person or $500 for two people from the same farm
